As the 'hard' features of office printers become increasingly interchangeable, "soft" factors take on a greater significance. In a networked office environment no two 'soft' factors are more important than environmental friendliness and data security. Here, the new monochrome printer duo from Develop South Africa, the ineo 282/362, have a lot to offer. Both printers have an excellent environmental profile and are strong on data security.
Marc Pillay, general manager of Develop South Africa, outlines the printers’ environmental characteristics: 'Sound environmental principles were applied in the printers’ design, such as the materials selected for the machines, the manufacturing process itself and the environment-friendly way in which the printers can ultimately be disposed. The printers are also economical on power and the standard duplex function can greatly reduce paper consumption. The printers’ environmental profile has been recognised by several ecological awards such as Energy Star and Blue Angel.'
To safeguard intellectual property in a networked office environment and prevent confidential documents getting into the wrong hands, the ineo 282/362 comes with a number of data security functions. The system can be configured to permit user authentication and IP filtering. In this way, access to sensitive data, such as financial, legal or personnel documents, can be restricted to authorised users. The system’s hard disk can be protected by a password and equipped with data-encryption functions. At an individual user level, it is possible to password-protect the box that provides every user with individual storage space in the system’s hard disk. These features ensure that networked print data are maintained at a similar level of data security to that of individual PCs.
When it comes to production, these printers’ soft" strengths certainly do not come at the expense of conventional 'hard' features, such as output quality or finishing, and the ineo 282/362 delivers professional-quality output, irrespective of whether it is used as a printer, copier, scanner or fax. The system’s ineo controller processes files fast and prints or copies at 28 or 36 A4 ppm, depending on whether the ineo 282 or 362 is chosen. Thanks to the polymerised toner all three models use, the quality of the output is excellent. Users can expect crisp, clear, contrast-rich text and outline-sharp images. All three printers can be supplied with a variety of finishing options such as brochure-making, corner stapling, punching and criss-cross sorting. The advantage is that documents can be printed or copied and then finished in-house.
The ineo 282/362 is designed to meet all the document needs of an accounts, order processing or HR department because the machines’ printing and copying qualities are matched by state-of-the-art scanning and faxing functionality. The scan to e-mail function, for example, enables scanned documents to be transmitted direct to a recipient’s e-mail address. Users can also scan to, and print in and out of their optional password-protected box if documents are not required immediately. Documents stored in the box are ready for reprinting at any time, without the need to reopen the document on the user’s PC.
The printers are also designed for easy operability. The ineo 282/362 can be seamlessly integrated into any network environment: Windows, Mac, Linux, Unix or Citrix. The fact that these printers use the same driver as all other ineo systems also facilitates device administration. The printers’ easy operability is demonstrated, for example, by their LDAP capability and the large and clearly designed operating panel. Office users will find the menu architecture and navigation system easy to follow. Since the main operating functions can be directly selected, no time is wasted when operating the device.
All in all, the ineo 282/362 is ideally suited to meet all the document production requirements of a busy office department or workgroup.
